Environmental Monitoring
Environmental monitoring is a key tool for understanding the evolution of the contamination and assessing the effectiveness of the management or remediation measures implemented.
The Mercury Technology Centre carries out the environmental monitoring plans required by the Administration to MAYASA following the cessation of its mining‑metallurgical activities, providing technical support in the environmental follow‑up of various sites of interest.
These activities are carried out in compliance with the requirements established by the competent authorities and are directly linked to environmental remediation actions, as well as to the control of certain mercury‑related facilities and infrastructures, both in completed projects and in those currently under way.
In general terms, the environmental monitoring activities carried out by CTM include:
- Monitoring environmental quality in areas affected by mercury‑related activities.
- Controlling different environmental compartments, with special attention to those that are potentially sensitive.
- Postimplementation monitoring of environmental restoration and remediation projects.
The environmental monitoring activities developed by CTM are based on a rigorous technical approach, supported by the company’s accumulated experience in mercury management, and are integrated into a comprehensive strategy for environmental monitoring and control. This provides objective information for internal environmental management and for communication with the authorities.
